Jane can now send booking conversions straight to Google Ads and Google Analytics 4. That means your ads can finally be judged on booked patients instead of clicks. The setup takes about 30 minutes, but a few small choices decide whether the numbers you get are accurate.
This guide walks through every step: creating the conversion action in Google Ads, connecting Jane's Google Ads and GA4 trackers, connecting your website, setting the right conversion as primary and checking it works. If you want the background on what changed and why it matters, start with what Jane's Google Ads tracking means for your clinic.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Account Owner access in Jane. Other staff levels can't add the integration.
- A Jane plan that includes it. Jane lists the integration for Legacy and Thrive plans, with no add-on required.
- Admin access to your Google Ads account, and your 10-digit Customer ID (top right of Google Ads).
- Editor access to your GA4 property, if you're connecting analytics too.
Set aside 30 minutes. You can do the Google Ads part and the GA4 part separately.
Step 1: Create the conversion action in Google Ads
Jane needs a conversion action to report bookings into. It's a special type, so follow these settings exactly (Jane's guide).
- In Google Ads, go to Goals, then Summary.
- Click + Create conversion action.
- On the conversion source page, untick everything except Conversions offline. If asked to choose a data source, pick Skip this step and set up a data source later.
- Click Save and continue.
- Set the category to Purchase.
- Click + Create conversion, then Connect data source later.
- Before you click Finish, use Edit settings to give it a clear name, like "Jane booking".
- Click Save and continue, then Finish.
The new conversion will show as Inactive. That's expected. It stays Inactive until the first patient clicks an ad and books.
Step 2: Connect Jane's Google Ads tracker
Now tell Jane where to send the bookings (Jane's guide).
- In Jane, go to Settings, then Integrations.
- Open Google Tag Manager and click Get Started.
- Choose Google Ads.
- Enter your Customer ID. Jane removes the hyphens for you.
- Enter the Conversion ID from the action you made in Step 1. Find it in Google Ads under Goals, then Summary: open your conversion goal and click the conversion action.
- Enter a Conversion name. This is only the label Jane shows.
- Follow the pop-up to grant Jane's server access to your Google Ads account.
Your campaign will then appear under Settings, Integrations, Google Tag Manager. Jane says data reaches Google Ads within 24 to 48 hours.
One limit to know: Jane links one conversion action at a time. Choose the one your bidding will use.
Step 3: Connect Jane's GA4 tracker
The Google Ads tracker tells you which ads book. The GA4 tracker shows bookings and revenue across every channel (Jane's guide).
- In GA4, go to Admin, then Data streams, open your web stream and copy the Measurement ID (it starts with G-).
- In Jane, open the Google Tag Manager integration and click Add a tracker.
- Choose Google Analytics, paste the Measurement ID and click Save.
If you already use Jane's older standalone Google Analytics integration, the ID will be filled in for you. The two integrations run independently, so you don't need to switch the old one off.
Jane says booking data is sent to GA4 automatically, with no events to configure by hand.
Step 4: Connect your website if ads land there first
Many clinics send ads to their own website, then link to Jane to book. In that case Jane recommends cross-domain measurement in GA4, so the website visit and the booking count as one session and the ad keeps the credit.
- In GA4, go to Admin, then Data streams, and open your web stream.
- Click Configure tag settings, then Configure your domains.
- Add your clinic website's domain and your Jane domain (for example, yourclinic.janeapp.com).
- Save.
If your ads link straight to your Jane booking page, you can skip this step. Choosing between those two options is worth testing. Our healthcare landing page guide covers the trade-offs.
Step 5: Make the Jane booking your primary conversion
This is the step most clinics miss, and it matters more than any other.
- In Google Ads, go to Goals, then Summary.
- Find your Jane booking conversion and set it as Primary.
- Set older actions like Book Now clicks, page views or form fills to Secondary, or remove them.
- Check your campaigns use the goal that contains the Jane conversion.
Primary conversions are what Google's bidding optimizes for. Leave an old click goal as primary and Google counts the click and the booking, which inflates your results and confuses bidding.
Keep phone call conversions as primary if your clinic books a lot by phone. Jane's tracker only reports online bookings. Our conversion tracking guide covers call tracking.
Step 6: Check it's working
Give it 48 hours, then check:
- In Jane: your Google Ads account and GA4 tracker show on the Google Tag Manager integration page.
- In GA4: bookings appear in the ecommerce purchase reports and in traffic acquisition by channel.
- In Google Ads: the conversion moves from Inactive to Active after the first booking from an ad click.
Don't click your own ads to test. It costs you money and can skew your data. Wait for a real patient booking instead. If nothing has appeared after 48 hours, Jane suggests contacting their support.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Picking the wrong source in Step 1. The action must be set to Conversions offline. A website tag action won't receive Jane's data.
- Two primary conversions for one booking. Demote your Book Now click goal once Jane is live.
- Linking a test action. Jane links one conversion action, so link the one your campaigns use.
- Changing bidding straight away. Let a few weeks of bookings build before switching to Target CPA.
- Ignoring cookie consent. In regions that require consent, Jane notes some data depends on the patient opting in.
- Forgetting phone bookings. Online bookings aren't the whole picture for most clinics.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Jane conversion say Inactive?
A new conversion action stays Inactive until Jane reports the first booking from an ad click. Once a patient books after clicking an ad, it changes to Active.
Do I still need cross-domain tracking with Jane?
Only if your ads land on your website before patients move to Jane. Then Jane recommends setting up cross-domain measurement in GA4. If ads go straight to Jane, you don't need it.
Can I link more than one conversion action?
No. Jane allows one Google Ads conversion action at a time. Use the one your bidding strategy optimizes for.
Does Jane share patient details with Google?
No. Jane says personal and health information is removed before data is sent to Google.
What does Jane send to GA4?
Bookings, package and gift card purchases with their value, service, location and the channel the patient came from.
